Mathieu RELANGE

Counsel

Mathieu Relange is a counsel in the firm’s antitrust team. He has extensive expertise in both European and French competition law. Additionally, he handles multi-jurisdictional issues, such as notifying mergers across multiple countries, advising on transnational business strategies, and conducting audits within the EMEA region, among other matters.

His practice covers all aspects of competition law, from anti-competitive practices (cartels and abuse of dominance) to State aid, the Digital Markets Act, merger control, FDI screening, and foreign subsidies.

Mathieu has gained international experience after practicing for over 10 years in Brussels with leading global firms (Cleary Gottlieb, Bird & Bird, etc.). During this time, he has advised clients across a wide range of industries, including:

Prior to joining FTPA, Mathieu was a member of the legal team at the French Competition Authority from 2021 to 2025. In this role, he contributed to drafting the Authority’s decisions in cartel and abuse of dominance cases, and managed litigations related to these decisions before the supervisory courts (Paris Court of Appeal, Court of Cassation, Constitutional Council, etc.). He also took part in advisory procedures and handled disputes concerning the protection of business secrets during proceedings before the Authority.

Admitted to the Paris Bar in 2011, Mathieu is an agrégé in modern literature, a former student of the École Normale Supérieure, and has a Master’s degree in public law from the University of Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne, as well as an LL.M. in competition and intellectual property law from NYU (New York University).
